Superior introduces DMF-free gloves.

So, what is dimethylformamide? (Besides hard to pronounce?)

Dimethylformamide (DMF) is a solvent used in the manufacturing of polyurethane gloves and related products. The big problem with solvents is that they are absorbed through the skin and accumulate in the liver. When it comes to human exposure, safe levels have been established in North America (current Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) permissible exposure limit is 10 parts per million over an 8 hour period), and that is the standard by which all of our PU-coated gloves have been manufactured. (Under 10 ppm actually.) But since not enough is known about it's health effects, we are striving to go much lower.

To that end, Superior has started on the path to DMF-free gloves by removing it from the following styles: S13PUQ, S13GPUQ, S13SXGPUQ and S13SXPUQ.

This transition will be complete by March 2010.

Glove tip
ImageIt's a good idea to keep both latex gloves and heavy-duty work gloves in a Emergency Preparedness Kit. The latex gloves protect against pathogens when assisting with injuries to people you may not know. The work gloves can be used to protect your hands from broken glass, barbed wire, etc.
