The 5 Best Gloves for Horror Movie Monsters

by Matt on October 31, 2016

Comments (3)

In the spirit of Halloween, I’ve been binge-watching horror movies all week and there’s something that’s bugging me.

No, it’s not the over-acting or the flawed logic of the characters (WHY WOULD YOU RUN UPSTAIRS?!) It’s the fact that there isn’t a single horror movie monster that practices proper hand safety.

70% of workplace hand injuries occurred because workers weren’t wearing work gloves and a movie monster isn’t any different. Safety first, guys. Today we’re going to look at gloves to keep our favorite villains safe.

1. Gremlins

A father learns the hard way that his son can’t follow three simple rules for pet care.

  1. Don’t feed after midnight.
  2. Don’t expose it to bright lights or direct sunlight.
  3. Don’t get it wet.

The mogwai — pictured above — are adorably harmless creatures assuming all rules are followed. However, feed one after midnight and that ball of fur turns into a terrifying hellbeast that multiplies when exposed to water. The only defense against one at that point is bright lights (hint, hint).

  • An allergic reaction to water of epic proportions:

Emerald CX® Liquid Proof Kevlar®/Wire-Core™ Gloves with Full Micropore Nitrile Coating Product ID: SCXPNTFC

  • Fully coated in a micropore nitrile dip that makes these gloves liquid proof.
  • Absorbs and displaces oils and liquids, creating a “suction” grip when handling slippery objects.

If the mogwais had been outfitted with these beauties, the town of Kingston Falls wouldn’t have been overrun by bat-eared Furbies looking to kill and destroy everyone and everything in their paths.

2. Leatherface:

Yard worker mistakes teenagers for trees due to poor lighting in work area, (Texas) chainsaw massacre ensues.

Leatherface is an enigma: he’s a bit of a loner who doesn’t talk much, yet he’s a total people person (that’s the PR term for cannibal).

For a lumbering oaf, he’s a crafty fella (that’s the PR term for makes masks out of skin) and lumberjack hobbyist (that’s the PR term for a chainsaw massacre-er ).

  • Loss of limb from chainsaw

Endura® Hi-Viz Cut-Resistant Chainsaw Glove Product ID: 385CS

  • Chain-arrest woven Kevlar® provides a level of cut resistance designed to withstand a chainsaw running at 3140 feet per minute.
  • Anti-vibration reinforcement to reduce hand fatigue.
  • Elasticized Velcro wrists improve comfort, while keeping out debris.
  • Hi-viz backing increases worker visibility on the job.

It doesn’t matter who’s wielding it, chainsaws are dangerous. Practicing safe operation of one is best, but a protective glove isn’t a bad second line of defense.

3. Mrs. Voorhees:

Plot Synopsis:

Camp cook turned murderer reminds teens why Friday the 13th is unlucky.

Mrs. Voorhees is the head chef at Crystal Lake but after the tragic death of her son, she’s driven mad and decides to exact vengeance on the counselors who didn’t save him. Maybe Mrs. Voorhees should pop on some safety glasses while carrying out her eye-for-an-eye brand of justice.

  • So many cut hazards!

Safety Recommendations:

Sure Knit™ Cut-Resistant Food Industry Glove Product ID: S10SXB

  • Meets FDA standards for food contact use.
  • ANSI level A7 cut resistance, these gloves offer impressive protection against even the sharpest of cut hazards.
  • Treated with Ultra-Fresh to achieve 99.9% antimicrobial status

Mrs. Voorhees hands would have been well protected when working in any high stress environment… like a kitchen.

4. Headless Horseman:

After misplacing his head, a horse rider attempts to recover it through extreme means.

The headless horseman was a Hessian trooper who died during the American Revolutionary War. He’s said to appear and disappear in a flash of fire and brimstone.

  • High heat temperature from all that fire and brimstone.
  • Cuts from not being able to see where he’s swinging his sword.

Safety Recommendations:

Heat-Resistant Kevlar® Gloves with SilaChlor® and Temperbloc™ Product ID: SKSCTB:

  • Heat resistance up to 600°F.
  • Kevlar® string-knit glove body will not drip or melt when exposed to open flame.
  • Level A4 cut-resistance.
  • You get significantly better dexterity and grip with these gloves.

Whether you’re a hellish ghoul or an industry worker, no one likes getting burned. These gloves are the perfect option when high heat resistance, cut protection and dexterity is needed.

5. King Kong:

Over-sized monkey destroys Manhattan in the name of love.

King Kong is a hopeless romantic, but has anger management issues. You can imagine the destruction he causes when someone tries to take his lady away. He’ll go to any heights (specifically the height of the Empire State Building) to get her back.

  • Injuries to the back of the hand from all the building smashing.
  • Poor grip if it rains.

Safety Recommendation:

TenActiv™ Anti-Impact Hi-Viz Glove with Micropore Nitrile Grip Product ID: STAGYPNVB:

  • Thermo plastic rubber backing helps reduce back-of-hand injuries.
  • Micropore nitrile palm dip provides excellent grip — great for displacing oils or keeping a good grip on the woman you love while scaling the Empire State Building.
  • Comes in size 3XL for hands that have a bit “more to love.”

Whether you’re turning wrenches or bashing buildings, back of hand protection is a necessity. It’s also important to make sure your glove fits properly. If you aren’t sure what sized glove you should be wearing, check out our sizing chart.

Key Takeaway:

Horror movie monsters like Mrs. Voorhees and Leatherface aren’t going to wear safety gear, no matter how many blogs I write about it, because they are crazy and aren’t easily harmed. Unlike you and me, who can easily be harmed and would be crazy not to wear gloves!

Happy Halloween from everyone at Superior Glove!
