No thanks, I don't want to prevent hand injuries.
Alan is the type of safety manager that a work glove manufacturer dreams of. Always interested in trying the newest products to see if his employees’ work can be made safer or easier, Alan told us employee buy-in was the least challenging part of his job. ” I sit and educate them,” he said. “If you get hurt, I have to do an investigation. Was it the policies we had in place? Did you try to cut corners? A lot of [injuries are from using] outdated PPE.”

Alan is the Head of Safety for PAI Industries, a diesel parts manufacturer for trucks, freight liners and boats. The work is difficult and messy, parts can weigh as much as 200 pounds and it’s not uncommon for those parts to be covered in oil.
After researching glove manufacturers because an employee sustained a hand injury, Alan discovered Superior’s Glove Sampling Program. He began sampling gloves for different areas in the company. Prior to this, PAI Industries purchased mostly general-purpose gloves from big box stores like Home Depot and employees were reporting a lot of hand and finger injuries.
Through Superior’s glove sampling program, Alan’s team trialed the Dexterity® 18-Gauge Cut-Resistant Kevlar® gloves with ZedCoat™ palms. “The ZedCoat™ gloves are a hit!” Alan wrote in an email. “The two men that dip heads are wearing them and truly think they make their job safer and less stressful due to the great grip they have when handling very expensive parts.”
Responsible for putting gloves on 250 employees around the world, it was challenging for Alan to find the proper fitting glove for every employee. Along with reducing hand injuries, these gloves came in size XXS to XXL so he could mirror the gloves to the individual worker’s hands. This meant cost and time savings through consolidation, since there was no longer a need to purchase an assortment of gloves to outfit different sized workers.
These qualities were important because, as Alan explains, “there’s nothing cheap on a diesel engine. I’m concerned about our bottom line, and our equipment and pieces, but I can buy more parts. I can’t buy these employees new hands.”
