[Infographic] What You Need to Know About Arc Flash

by Frank MacDonald on February 3, 2016

Comments (3)

Did you know that at least 30,000 arc flash accidents occur every single year? If you found that scary, here’s the real kicker: 400 of these incidents resulted in fatalities.

Whether you’ve experienced arc flash firsthand or are new to the subject, the good news is that since they are preventable, it’s possible to minimize the risk within your workplace with the right preparation.

The best thing you can do to protect your workers from the aftermath of arc flash is to educate yourself about what they are, how they occur and the protection available should one occur.

With that in mind, we created the infographic below. Don’t let lightning strike twice!

Dear Bill Soellner,
I am a welder and I have read your article about “Arc-Flash”.
As a welder, I have been flashed all day long, by my own arc and also by the welder welding next to me.
Do you have documentation of a Welder ever being killed from Welder Arc-Flash? If so I would like to see it.
Thank you,
Greig Marshall

As a welder, you are and should be aware of the hazards and are wearing the appropriate personal protective equipment to protect yourself. Welding shield to protect face, eyes and neck, lethers to protect hands and uper body. You have control of the energy source, you dial the amps to suit your need. You use a welding screen to protect fellow workers.

Excellent infographic!!!
Protective clothing certified according to EN ISO 11611 gives the wearer protection against small splashes of molten metal, brief contact with flame & radiant heat. The garments certified to this standard are suitable for use in welding and allied processes.
