In the safety world, the Endura® 378GKGVB is the cream of the crop for hand protection. It has a bit of everything, for every industry. It was developed for the oil and gas industry, a hybrid to be worn by the workers on the rigs and the workers on the pipeline. But the benefits of this glove quickly spread to different industries like extrication and landscaping.
But with every innovation comes imitation and if imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, then we’re blushing. The glove on the right is a competitor’s answer to the 378GKGVB. But we wanted to see if this glove could stand up to ours by sending it to the ultimate test… the DuPont™ Thermo-Man® test.
DuPont™’s website refers to the test as “the world’s most advanced life-size thermal burn injury evaluation system,” and for good reason. The Thermo-Man® test uses a 6’1 mannequin covered in 122 heat sensors to see how personal protection equipment manufactured with DuPont™ products react in a fire. For the test, our glove was loaded onto one of the dummy’s hands and the competitor glove was loaded onto the other. The gloves are exposed to a flash fire that lasts four seconds and reaches temperatures of 1832°F (1000°C).
Both gloves are developed for the oil and gas industry, so protection from flash fire is as important as protection from bumps and knocks to the back of the hand. Before looking at the results of the Thermo-Man® test, let’s see how the gloves match up in other areas:
In the categories of resistance to arc flash, puncture and cuts, the 378GKGVB is the clear winner. It can also outfit your entire team with sizing options from XS to 3XL.

We can tell you that the four-second flash fire, 378GKGVB self-extinguishes, whereas a fire has started on the “competitor” glove. Critics will say that it isn’t designed to protect from flash fire or that it might as well have been doused in gasoline. But, the other glove wasn’t chosen for this test to make the 378GKGVB look good by comparison, it was chosen because it was designed to be a competitor in the oil and gas industry.
Which brings us back to the thesis that you don’t just want to meet safety standards, you want to exceed them to keep your employees safe.
