No thanks, I don't want to prevent hand injuries.
So many different industries come with a built-in risk of injury from impacts. That’s why high-impact gloves have built-in protection to keep hands safe for mechanics, construction workers, and people in a wide range of industries. The question is, how much protection do you need? Is there such a thing as too much protection?
There’s always a danger of having too little hand protection. But with the right gloves, you’ll also avoid the dangers that come with wearing gloves that are too heavy for the job. By ensuring that your workers are wearing the right gloves, this will also increase the likelihood that they’ll actually wear them on the job.
Inspect a pair of high impact gloves and you’ll notice that the glove has an outer shell with raised sections of dense, rubbery material that’s molded or otherwise fixed to the glove. The sections usually cover the back of the hand and most — or all of — the fingers. They’re strategically placed to stop and buffer an impact where it naturally occurs before it can reach the hand.
Most impact protection is comprised of somewhat rigid thermoplastic rubber or TPR, which is why impact resistant gloves have scored or segmented material. Along with providing phenomenal protection against impacts, the TPR also helps to improve hand movement, since the panels are able to bend and flex. This characteristic makes the gloves more comfortable to wear without impairing movement more than is necessary.
Since impact resistance is a crucial part of hand protection for a lot of different industries, we offer a wide selection of anti-impact gloves that come with a variety of other advantages. Oil field workers, for example, live with a significant, daily impact hazard: they have slippery things to grip on the job, so an impact-resistance glove with a strong palm coating is the perfect combination for the job.
Mechanics need impact protection, and they need an extreme level of dexterity. Our Clutch Gear® impact resistant line has the right amount of protective TPR pads in a glove that’s more breathable and flexible with great grip at the fingertips. In workplaces where cut hazards are a concern, styles such as our Dexterity® Impact-Resistant gloves offer impact protection along impressive cut resistance. These are only a few of the numerous options that you have to choose from.
You might default to the highest level of protection that you can find. They would surely keep hands safer from impacts. But too much protection comes with a hazard of its own, and that’s reduced dexterity. Some gloves are so protective that you might as well wear mittens. And some are so heavy that they’re uncomfortable, either from the bulk of the material or the heat that they trap inside.
Gloves that are too bulky put the wearer at risk in a few ways. When you can’t move your hands freely or comfortably handle what you’re working on, you’re more likely to drop the material or lose your grip. Frighteningly, this can even cause workers to remove their gloves, which is the most dangerous risk of all.
Anti impact protection helps workers avoid serious injuries such as crushed hands, bruises, and broken bones. They’re available in materials ranging from natural goatskin to high-tech composite blends, and each has its own purpose. Each also has the protective TPR padding that improves worker safety.
