3 Things You Probably Didn’t Know about Heat-Resistant Leather Gloves

Back when tanning leather was a relatively new concept, using vegetable matter in the tanning process was very common. However, there’s a reason why approximately 90% of leather is tanned with chromium oxide nowadays. On its own, leather is typically able to withstand up to 400◦F before starting to burn. Chromium oxide is the key to creating a more heat-resistant piece of leather (that’s right, impress your friends with that little nugget of knowledge); once the leather’s been tanned with chromium oxide, it can withstand up to 500◦F before it’ll begin to char and harden.
